Bowen for Small Animals

Most of us that share the house with pets, consider the furry friends members of the family, so it is only natural to look for the best care available for them. When they suffer, they can’t tell us where it hurts, and that’s when the Bowen Technique can help. We both started to treat pets even when we were just beginners with this technique! When they look at you, with those begging, tearing eyes, you can feel their sufferance and can’t help by at least doing the basic moves on their little bodies, intuitively, hoping for the best, as we always do on humans.

Tom Bowen himself adapted his work for animals – small and large, with great success. He is known for treating many racehorses in the Gelong area and for his soft spot when it came to animals’ sufferance.

After many requests from our students to bring Bowen for Small Animals into our teaching program, we put together the present first level, adapted for Bowen practitioners, that already learned the basics of this amazing technique and are animal lovers as well! The moves and the procedures are similar to the ones for humans, already learned, with some differences due to the four leg posture particularities.

Another difference: animals don’t have the same barriers and psychological constrictions humans tend to develop! They don’t want to be sick; they don’t simulate conditions to make us feel sorry for them – they are honest and straight forward! For these reasons, they will respond much faster to the Bowen technique, as their bodies well-being is not conditioned by mental restrictions. This is a major breakout in our work, but we have to be very observant of their manifestations and learn to interpret reactions in a correct way.

Animals are very senzitive to the Bowen Technique and there is no way we could allow for a pet to receive so many procedures over 8 hours per day. We studied many options, went back and forward, weighted the pros and   cons, and decided to practice on plush dogs (natural size), that we will provide.
